Helping children and young people thrive, with tailored therapy plans to meet their needs

Psychotherapy and Counselling For Children, Teens, Young Adults and Parents

Welcome, I’m Deborah and I’m an integrative psychotherapist. I tailor the therapy and counselling to an individual’s needs and who they are. I work with children, adolescents, parents and young adults from different backgrounds and cultures with simple or complex issues.

You may wonder how psychotherapy or counselling can make a positive difference. In my years of experience I have seen that it does. You may have some thoughts about the type of therapy you’re looking for, such as CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy). If this is suitable then I weave this through the therapy sessions. Gestalt is another method which includes elements of body awareness using the senses. Other facilitations include art, play, and breathing techniques. Sometimes I do guided visualisations to help with anxiety as well as nightmares. I also work with dreams.

Children

Therapy for children can make an enormously positive difference, in a space where they feel safe to express, ask questions and learn about their feelings, put words to feelings and understand their behaviours.

Teenagers

Often teenagers who are struggling with emotional pain can become distrustful of sharing their personal difficulties for fear of being judged. The safety of the therapeutic space and being able to connect and feel understood is crucial. It allows a young person to talk more openly about what’s going on, to receive guidance where there is confusion and to discover more of who they are and their true nature.

Young Adults

Being a young adult brings with it more responsibility and perhaps feelings of not being able to cope. When a person is feeling very low, numb, empty, angry, and lacking in direction, therapy can help. When there are struggles that you are unable to resolve, this may be a time to consider reach out for professional help.

Parent Counselling Sessions

I facilitate parent sessions with a focus on the dynamics between the parent and child-adolescent, alongside issues and difficulties related to a parent, such as their own childhood conditioning which might impact the areas they are struggling with. The unique situation and circumstances that infuse these areas are explored to provide support and guidance in practical ways.

One-to-One Parent Session

For parents or guardians whose child is not in therapy but would like some guidance and support with specific issues. These sessions are also suitable for grandparents who are finding it difficult to connect with their grandchild.

The Therapy Session Room

The psychotherapy and counselling sessions are delivered in a lovely calm and tranquil space. There is a large window that isn’t visible in the photo. I adapt the space to accommodate each individual. For a child, I lay down a washable floor covering, cushions for comfort and depending on their preferences, there may be painting and drawing materials, other crafts, building structures, puppets and more. They can also sit on the comfy armchair, which is usually used for adults.

Note: All sanitising measures are taken to prevent the spread of covid.

My mission is to help children develop the confidence they need to rise above their perceived limitations, navigate emotional issues, build social skills, self-esteem and self-awareness, and tap into more joy.
